The career path of Dr. Gail Weingast, who is now the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, was slightly different than most, although it turned out well, running what is considered to be among the best radiology departments in the country. She actually started by earning a degree in Spanish from Tufts, and not some sort of “pre-med.” Soon after, however, she enrolled in the Boston University School of Medicine, where she earned the title of Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976.
From there, she managed to complete a pediatrics internship, a pediatric residency, and a radiology residency at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado between 1976 and 1983 before completing a post-graduate degree as a radiologist in 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Dr. Gail Weingast then kicked around several other hospitals in Colorado and New York before she settled into settling into Backus Hospital, where she has guided her department into something of an elite status.
