• Dr. Gail Weingast Has Been Helping Radiology Patients for Decades

  • Dr. Gail Weingast currently serves as the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging, at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, but her career path was slightly different than most. Not that it matters, since it all resulted in her running what is now considered one of the finest radiology departments in the country. The unusual part is, she apparently didn’t have a calling to be a doctor at first, which is evident by the fact that she began her education by earning a degree in Spanish from Tufts University in 1969.

It obviously didn’t take long to decide on a career in medicine, however, because she soon matriculated at the Boston University School of Medicine, where she earned her medical degree and the right to the title of Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976. From there, she completed a pediatrics internship, a pediatric residency, and a radiology residency at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado between 1976 and 1983 before completing a post-graduate degree as a radiologist in 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Dr. Gail Weingast then kicked around several other hospitals in Colorado and New York before settling into Backus Hospital, where she led her department into something of an elite status nationwide.
